Activision’s upcoming Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare 3, might not be generating widespread excitement just yet. However, for those dedicated few eagerly awaiting the next installment of the first-person shooter game, here’s some good news: a new report claims that the game has officially entered the alpha testing phase.
Insider Gaming revealed that Modern Warfare 3 Internal Alpha, codenamed ‘HailStröm,’ is currently in advanced playtesting. @PlaystationSize provided Insider Gaming with an image of the internal alpha, weighing approximately 20GB. However, due to copyright concerns, the image cannot be disclosed at this time.
Following the unforgettable FTC hearings debacle where the judge accidentally divulged information on the game’s release date, Activision is expected to make an official reveal of the game, which is codenamed ‘Jupiter’, in just a few weeks.
Modern Warfare 3 was initially expected to be a premium DLC expansion of Modern Warfare 2, but it has since been confirmed to be a new standalone game featuring remastered maps from previous titles in the franchise.
The upcoming title’s lack of excitement mainly boils down to Modern Warfare 2 issues. The multiplayer mode, in particular, has been a major source of disappointment for gamers. Complaints have poured in regarding the lackluster maps and unsatisfying progression.
PC players have been plagued by constant bugs and crashes, while many have noticed suspiciously lowered hit detection and aim assist after performing well in previous matches. On top of that, the unoptimized RICOCHET anti-cheat software has resulted in wrongful bans for some players.
The general consensus among gamers is that the same issues will persist in Modern Warfare 3, which begs the question: why shell out $70 and more on microtransactions and battle passes for a game you already own, just with a different name?
